As one who as worked as a musician in Blackpool UK, I know about genres. I have writtten produced and performed in most genres. Look on Amazon ITunes etc. Under Jacqui K or Colin McColl to find a few still current. We would play any popular song requested in any genre, meaning give them what they want to hear and not try to educate the audience or push our own numbers. Michael this is a great mind blowing article (Embrace the Genre). Sprinkled with humour and full of interest.
Ha! That is great news then. As you alluded to, the concept of genre is one to be avoided at all costs in some music circles. And I totally get why; to label is to box-in, etc etc. But I have often just seen it as a helpful (and even fun) starting point.

Thanks so much, Colin!
This one was extra fun. Thanks!
Thank you! It was a lot of fun to put together and go down some research rabbit holes.
Great read this week, as always, but as a fan of all that goes into considering 'genres' myself, this week really took the cake (or pumpkin pie)!
Excellent - thanks! I'm obsessed with 'genre,' too, so chances are this won't be the first time the topic rears its head.
