Ringo Dreams of Elsewhere
There's something strange going on tonight, something going on that's not quite right.
OK, this is weird. Hi.
I’m sending a quick message via this dreaded platform to the lovely 300+ folks who may or may not want to hear more from me and Ringo-adjacent meanderings.
The scoop: I have two new newsletters that are happening outside of Substack. I’d love for you to sign up.
The first is the closest we’ll get to the vintage Ringo Dreams of Lawn Care format. It’s called Dramatic Chipmunk, and it’s going to be more personal and full of stories, it’s going to be off-the-cuff (i.e., convoluted), it’s going to be a little strange. If you recall enjoying Ringo Dreams of Lawn Care in the far reaches of your memory banks, then this must be the place. How often does it go out? I have no idea. Not too often and with unintentional randomness.
Hosted by our new pals at the wonderfully named Rumicat, you can sign up for Dramatic Chipmunk here → [GIMMIE DRAMA]
Once I feel the troops have assembled there, the debut missive from ‘the Chipmunk’ will descend into unsuspecting inboxes. Get in on some early action.
Nice, right? Oh, there’s more.
Part of the reason you haven’t heard from me, other than <waves hands in the air at the world on fire while twirling around like a crazy person and moaning with sustained annoyance>, is that I started an online music and culture magazine called The Tonearm with my friend and confidante Lawrence Peryer.
It’s neat and you should check it out!
And there is a newsletter for The Tonearm, which goes out every weekend. I’m writing that, too. It usually features deep dives into stories we recently published on the site, algorithm-defying recommendations from Lawrence and yours truly, and then we end it with someone rad telling us about something they think is rad. This week, Mike Scott of The Waterboys recommended Norwegian country rock. You can check out this week’s issue of what we call Talk Of The Tonearm by clicking these words.
And, yes, if this sounds good to you, then I’d love for you to also subscribe to Talk Of The Tonearm. You can do so here → [TONE ME UP]
Other than that, I’m occasionally posting things on 8sided.blog. My last post there, which means a lot to me, is a remembrance of my old friend Dave Allen.
Substack? So wack. This is the last thing you’ll see from me here. For realsies. If you feel like having my ambiguous verbiage arrive via email, then the two newsletters linked above are the way to go.
Thank you, friend. I hope everything in your world is as good as it can be under perilous circumstances, and I’ll see you in one of these other places.
— Michael
P.S. I thought about doing that thing where I instruct you not to follow me on Mastodon or Bluesky, which is obviously a ploy to get you to follow me in those places, but I’m not going to do that.
